The construction of Spring Temple Buddha started in 2001, after the Taliban has destroyed Buddhas of Bamiyan in Afghanistan. The construction of this copper statue was finished in 2008 and cost 55 million dollars. Spring Temple Buddha is 420 feet tall. Together with the pedestal the height of the statute makes 502 feet. Spring Temple Buddha is twice as high as the US Statue of Liberty.
