Oil painting the Nightmare was created by Anglo-Swiss artist Henry Fuseli in 1781. Since its creation, it has remained author's best-known work. For the first time this artwork was displayed at the annual Royal Academy Exhibition in London in 1782 where it shocked both visitors and the critics.
