30 years ago the Aral Sea was the fourth largest lake in the world. The harvest irrigation cut the initial size of the Aral Sea by 80%, and it has been called the worst environmental disaster in the world. The sea was split into two isolated ponds - North and South Aral Sea. Kazakhstan saved the sea by building a dam. In the south, Uzbekistan has taken no action. One of the reasons for this behavior was the presence of oil and gas at the bottom. The production was began in 2010.
