The Seaflower Biosphere Reserve is located in the archipelago of San Andres, Providencia and Santa Catalina, in the west part of the Caribbean. This marine reserve by Unesco is protected from economic exploitation. However, in 2013, a half of the Seaflower was given to Nicaragua, and officials of the country have invited transnational corporations for oil search.
