Marseille is the second largest city in France, one of the largest and oldest ports on the Mediterranean Sea, known as "the Gate of the East".
In 2013, this southern city was declared European Capital of Culture. The seaside Marseille, lapped by gentle waves of the Mediterranean Sea, has turned into a cultural center, where different events and exhibitions are held all the year round. New exhibition galleries and concert halls were built there. Few new chic hotels were opened in the city. They will please the most demanding tourists.
