Itigilov spent his life as a Buddhist Buryat Lama in the best traditions of Tibetan Buddhism, began his spiritual journey in 16 years. In 1927, at the age of 75 years, he told his disciples that the time for him to go to another world has come. Following instructions, he asked students to "visit his body in 30 years." Itigilov died quietly in meditation and soon was buried in a cubic box of cedar in the lotus position. Since then, he was exhumed twice, and despite the absence of an act of mummification, the analysis of his body showed that the protein fractions have a lifetime performance.
