In 1845, over one hundred people sailed to the New World, hoping to find the Northwest Passage, the legendary trade route to Asia. Two vessels of researchers disappeared, and there anything has not been heard about the expedition until 1850, when another group came across what was left of the long-vanished tribe of Beechey Island. Among the graves there were three fresh graves with the remains of John Torrington, John Hartnell and William Bruijn. Over a hundred years later, in 1984, after the exhumation, it was found that all three bodies perfectly preserved, mainly due to tundra permafrost.
