Joaquin Murrieta became famous in 1850s, during the California Gold Rush. He was loved and hated. Mexican people considered him a real patriot and hero, while authorities believed he was a bandit. For many political activists the name of Joaquin Murrieta is a symbol of Anglo-American resistance against cultural and economic domination in California.
