Cabaret Chat Noir poster, 1928.
We have chosen one of the most prominent poster artists and illustrators of the nineteenth and twentieth century. - Theophile Steinlen. The first and perhaps most famous poster of cat by Steinlen appeared in the Parisian cabaret "Black Cat", opened in 1881 in Montmartre. "Black Cat" was so popular among the bohemian, so soon in other countries similar cabarets began to appear, for instance "four cats" in Barcelona, and "Stray cats" in St. Petersburg.
