This castle is one of the most haunted and mystical sites in Europe. According to the legend, the castle was built over a large hole which was supposed to be a gateway to hell from which terrifying half-human and half-animal creatures came out. Locals built the castle in order to keep the demons trapped inside.

Arundel Castle is a renewed medieval castle in Arundel, West Sussex, England. It was built in the 11th century. The castle is supposed to be haunted by numerous ghosts but it is the ghost of the first Earl of Arundel whose appearance are reported most often.

Built as a plantation house between Town Creek and Courtland, Alabama, this building was surrounded by numerous ghost stories and mystery legends. The castle was purported to be haunted by the spirit of a Lady in Blue, ghosts of Civil War soldiers, and the ghosts of tortured slaves. In 1960s the Rocky Hill Castle was demolished.

This one of the most haunted places in Northern Ireland was built in 1625. Nowadays it serves as a hotel, and reported to host a number of ghosts. Most frequently it is haunted by the former resident, Madam Nixon, who has been allegedly haunting the castle since her death in the 18th century.

The Himeji Castle in the Hyogo Prefecture is a site of some eerie events and unexplainable cases. Actually, the castle’s well has allegedly witnessed the most haunting so it is believed that it hosts the ghost of Okiku, a mythical character from ancient Japanese legends. The ghost rises from the well at night and counts to nine before shrieking. After that, the ghost returns back to the well.
