In June 2009, while digging a railroad in Dorset workers found a small contingent of viking warriors buried in the ground. A mass grave contained the remains of 54 dismembered skeletons, and 51 skulls in a pile within a disused Roman quarry. It is believed that the remains are of people who lived during the early Middle Ages, Vth-Xth centuries. Probably, the deaths occurred as a result of conflict between the Anglo-Saxons and Viking invaders.
