Picasso painted "Guernica" in 1937. The painting is dedicated to the bombing of the town of Guernica. They say that when in 1940 Picasso was summoned to the Gestapo and asked about "Guernica": "You did it?", the artist answered, "No, you did."
"Guernica" is considered a reflection of the horror of fascism, inhuman cruelty. Those who have seen it with their own eyes now claim that it engenders anxiety and sometimes panic.
