Belladonna and its pharmacological properties have been known for over 2,000 years. In ancient Greece and Rome, it was used as a poison. In the Middle Ages the ointment of belladonna was used during trials of witches, it causes severe hallucinations. In the XVIII-XIX centuries in Europe drops of belladonna become a popular cosmetic product.
A couple of belladonna drops dilate pupils, makes eyes shine and more expressive. On the other hand, the same drops caused hallucinations, blindness, and their prolonged use could cause a death.
