Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste occupies the eastern half of the island of Timor in the Lesser Sunda Islands and Malay Archipelago and is located 450 kilometers north of Australia. This is one of the poorest countries in the world. In 2013, it was visited by 78,000 tourists.
