The owner of the brewery Oregon's Rogue Ales, John Mayer, to attract more buyers, decided to create a beer that at first was called "beard beer." Rumor has it that in 1978 John tried to use the follicles of his beard instead of yeast. He has been surprised by their positive impact on the beer fermentation.
