The word "dollar" is not just a value. The word "Joachimstaler" is underlied of it. Joachimstaler is a coin of the XVII century, which was minted in the Czech city Joachimsthal (Jáchymov). For the convenience, the name of the currency was reduced to "thaler". In Denmark, due to the nature of language name of the coin is pronounced "Daler", and in Britain it was transformed from the familiar to us in a "dollar".
